Click on any page and go to it's template. Click on Inheritance tab. Find Standard Template > Layout section. In there click on _Renderings - Layout field. You can see you that this field is shared.
I had a situation where I had two versions of the same item in SC - one in EN and one in DE. It had a component with rendering parameter that was text. I would type in Hello in EN version then switch to DE version and would see Hello in there as well. There was no way to have two translations of the value in two diff versions.
The only way to accommodate this was to have separate presentation on two different versions. To achieve that unselect Shared for the Renderings field and add presentation manually to the other item.
In SC 8 however this is fixed.
